Each summer I get a little overwhelmed with how many odds and ends I have left over from the mini making process, this year i thought I’d adapt my straight to the point scarf pattern into a blanket for a little summer scrapathon. I’m a serial project starter, so lets see how much of this blanket I can get made during the summer holidays with the kids, as lets face it, it wont be the only project I have on the go!
Using a 3.5mm hook, US crochet terms and sock weigh minis or left over yarn.
You will crochet a strip at a time, making it a lovely portable scrappy project. I’m using up all my sock weight left overs and minis.
ch – chain

sc – single crochet
sp – space
Row 1 – Make a magic ring, ch1 (this doesn’t count as a stitch here or throughout the pattern), (2sc, ch2, 2sc) close up the magic loop. Turn.
Row 2 – Ch2, 2sc in the first stitch, ch1, skip 1 stitch, (1sc ch2 , 1sc) in the ch2-sp (centre stitch sp), ch1, skip the 1st stitch, 2sc in the last stitch. Turn.
Row 3 – Ch1, 2sc in the first stitch, ch1, skip 1 stitch, 1sc in the next sp, ch1, skip 1 stitch (1sc, ch2, 1sc) in the ch2-sp (centre stitch sp), ch1, skip 1 stitch, 1sc in the next sp, ch1, skip 1 st, 2sc in the last stitch. Turn.
Row 4 – Ch1, 2sc in the first st, [ch1, skip 1 st, 1sc in next space] repeat [ to ] until centre stitch sp, ch1, skip 1st stitch, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) into the centre stitch sp, [ch1, skip 1 st, 1sc in the next space] repeat [ to ] until 2 stitches left, ch1, skip 1st stitch, 2sc in the last stitch. Turn.
Repeat row 4 until you have 13 sc crochet stitches each side of the point (26 total sc stitches). This will be the width of your strip so if you like it wider, repeat row 4 a few more times. Likewise if you would like it narrower, crochet less rows.
Main Pattern
Row 5 – ch2, skip 2 stitches, sc in the next space, [ch1, skip 1 st, 1sc in next space] repeat [ to ] until centre stitch sp, ch1, skip 1st stitch, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) into the centre stitch sp, [ch1, skip 1 st, 1sc in the next space] repeat [ to ] until you get to the last ch1 sp, sc in the ch1 space, miss the next stitch, sc in the final stitch. Turn
Row 6 – ch2, skip 2 stitches, sc in the next space, [ch1, skip 1 st, 1sc in next space] repeat [ to ] until centre stitch sp, ch1, skip 1st stitch, (1sc, ch2, 1sc) into the centre stitch sp, [ch1, skip 1 st, 1sc in the next space] repeat [ to ] until you get to the last ch1 sp, sc in the ch1 space, miss the next stitch, sc in the ch2 sp. Turn
Repeat row 6 until your strip is as long as you’d like your blanket to be.
To finish off your strip, work a row of sc around the entire edge. I would use a neutral or high contrast colour to do this. Pop your strip aside and start the next one following the pattern exactly the same.
Once you have made enough strips for the width of the blanket you would like, join them together using your favourite method.
Happy crocheting, and don’t forget to tag me in pics of your final makes!
